Danmarks Flymuseum
The Danish Aviation Museum is a 7600 m² large, modern and vibrant aviation museum with 50 Danish and foreign aircrafts from 1911–2000. These include gliders, vintage aircraft, fighter planes and helicopters. The main idea of the Danish Aviation Museum is to run a museum with emphasis on Danish aviation history and aircraft production, both civilian and military. At the same time, it is a working, or rather a “flying” museum, as many aircraft in the collection are kept airworthy as much as possible and displayed in the air on various occasions throughout the country. This means that the planes are seen by significantly more people than the visitors who visit the museum during the season. Providing, restoring and preserving historic aircraft and effects, as well as displaying these and disseminating knowledge and history, is an essential part of the museum’s work. The work is carried out by unpaid volunteers. 16 aircraft have been restored to airworthy condition.
The Danish Aviation Museum has created a museum of high standard that is of both national and international interest. An aviation museum has been built with approx. 60 aircraft in the exhibition. These include gliders, vintage aircraft, fighter planes and helicopters.
Around the museum are themed exhibitions, some of a permanent nature, including an exhibition about crashed Allied planes around Ringkøbing Fjord during the war – others more occasional, such as the 100th anniversary of the first flight of the Wright brothers. In addition to aircrafts, the collection contains a large number of items of aviation historical interest, more than 1000 aircraft models, several aircraft engines, propellers, etc.
