Danmarks Industri Museum
Do you know what ’the old days’ smell like?
If not, then you can smell and experience it in authentic surroundings it at Denmark’s Industrial Museum. The Industrial Museum gives you the amazing story about how the industrialization shaped our society and the way we live. It is for everyone and you can experience all of life’s stages.
As soon as you enter the museum, you can feel it: You have stepped back in time and now it is easy to get an impression of what life was like for your parents, your grandparents and their parents.
Do your children also ‘look’ best with their fingertips?
Then there is nothing to worry about because this is heaven for curious fingers! At Danmarks Industrimuseum, there is room for play, and if you follow the footprints going through the buildings, you will be sure to experience it all.
The Wardrobe is the place where you can dress up and walk a catwalk on the red carpet. If you fall in love with your outfit, you can even rent it for your next party. From here, the tour takes you to the “Folkeskolen”, the Danish public school, in the 1950s. Here you can try to attend a class or plunge into one of the assignments of the time.
In the Workers’ Living Quarters, your sight, as well as your senses of smell and taste, are brought into play. Here you can explore not only how people lived in olden times but also what they ate, because in the kitchen the aunties are often preparing dishes from the old days, and you are welcome to taste!
Experience living history in the workshops displaying various occupations, among others the machine hall with the big (and noisy) engines, the forge, and the printing workshop, just to mention a few examples.
The shopping street is a wonderful place in itself. Here you can try the telephone exchange or stand behind the counter in the Radio & TV shop or the cigar shop, where the sweet smell of tobacco hits you as soon as you step inside.
Every Saturday and Sunday at 12 noon, 1 pm and 2 pm you can go on 30-minute long guided tour of the museum. The tour costs 10 DKK pr. person and it is available to individuals and small groups. If you want to go, you sign up at the reception on the day.
Guided tours for larger groups are available upon request (advanced booking required).
